Active Retirement Communities Arrange Activities To Keep You Entertained

There are now more active retirement communities being developed throughout the world due to the growing number of baby-boomers reaching retirement age. In England and Wales, many married couples tend to migrate to the peace and sunshine of the West Country when they retire.

However, there are more widows than wives among women over 65 in London than elsewhere in the country. There are also many more single retirees in London as a result of the high levels of couples migrating out of London.

Some of the points that may influence your choice a retirement community may include:

  • affordability - when retiring on a tight budget, you will want to find the location and retirement communities with fairly low maintenance charges that will offer the best value for your money.

  • lots of senior activities to keep you busy and entertained. Facilities may include golf courses for golfers, lakes for water sports and fishing, etc..

  • closeness to health and medical facilities

  • decent senior housing - size and comfortable living accommodation

  • nice warm weather if you like outdoor life, such as gardening, walking and sporting activities

  • a reasonably large clubhouse for social activities

  • gated, secure retirement community

  • allow family, including young grandchildren, to visit and stay with you for a period of time

  • regular, organised communal outings or holidays

  • a scenic location with good restaurants and pubs.

There are lots of retirement communities to cover the many varieties of senior housing designed for those who have just retired from work and those more senior retirees who require special needs and medical facilities.

Whether you choose to live in retirement communities close to other retirees or stay put in your present home, you'll need to have lots of activities to keep you engaged and interact with other people.

Retirees who prefer to live at home can join the local day centres for lunch and senior activities arranged by their local day centres. These day centres act as their active retirement communities where they socialise and interact with other retirees.
