Letting Go And Not Dwelling On The Past Will Bring Us Peace of Mind and Happiness
Letting go and not getting too attached to the past is not an easy thing to do. But if we are able to do so, our ability to let go will bring us long lasting happiness.
Our ability to offload excess baggage from our minds will help us feel calm and happy. It is an excellent way of coping with stress.
Here is a tale of two monks and a beautiful woman.
Two monks were sent on a mission. Along their journey they came to a stream where a beautifully dressed woman was standing and waiting anxiously.
As she did not want to ruin her lovely clothes, she requested a favour of them to carry her to the other side of the stream. The two monks looked at each another because they had taken their vows not to touch a woman.
Then, without further hesitation, the senior monk picked up the woman and carried her across the river. He then gently placed her on the other side of the stream and carried on his journey.
The junior monk couldn't believe what he had just seen. He was speechless after rejoining the senior monk. An hour had passed without a word being exchanged between them.
Two more hours passed, then three.
Finally the junior monk could contain himself no longer.
He summoned his courage and asked, "How could you do what you did back there, when you had made a vow not to touch a woman!"
The senior monk looked at him and replied, "Oh, are you still carrying her? I put her down hours ago."
End of tale.
One reason why we are stressed up may be because we are unable or unwilling to let go.
By letting go of the past and learning from the experience, we can then move on. We will be free from stress.
The past is like water under the bridge. It's gone forever.
Don't carry excess mental baggage as they can weigh heavily on our minds and affect our physical health.
Don't dwell on the past and we can find lasting peace of mind and happiness for the present and the future.
